Monday, October 12th is Columbus Day, which we have celebrated in this country since the eighteenth century… and that’s probably long enough. When you find out the actual facts of what Columbus did when he got to America, you’ll find one of the darkest chapters in American history. Vincent Serpa, attended Bishop O’Dowd High School and the University of San Francisco, and entered the Dominican Novitiate for the U.S. western province of the Dominican Order. Ten years after his famous 1492 voyage, Christopher Columbus awaited the gallows on criminal charges in a Caribbean prison. He plotted an escape--a last voyage that would restore his reputation. This last and most treacherous journey ended with the loss of all four of his ships and Columbus and his crew shipwrecked.
